Richards, W. George | Biographical Dictionary of Architects in Canada

RICHARDS, W. George (fl. 1884-1900), active in Markdale, Ont. as a 'builder, contractor and architect' (Markdale Standard, 5 June 1884, 1, advert.). In 1889 he prepared the plans for The Belfast Block, Main Street, MARKDALE, ONT (Markdale Standard, 24 Oct. 1889, 4, descrip.). This was a major three storey brick commercial block, erected for the Benson Brothers, and this landmark still stands today as of 2020. Ten years later, in 1899, Richards drew the plans for a substantial addition to the McFarland Block, Main Street, MARKDALE, ONT. (Markdale Standard, 2 Nov. 1899, 4, descrip.).
