Prat, George Ann

PRAT, George Ann (1837-1936) was active in Wolfville, N.S. as a carpenter and cabinet maker, and appears in numerous directory listings at first as a carpenter (1890 to 1898), and in 1901-08 as an architect (McAlpines Nova Scotia Directory, 1902 and 1907-08). Born in Glastonbury, England on 8 September 1836 he arrived in Canada at the age of ten years, and lived in the Annapolis Valley before moving to Wolfville in 1878. He was credited with the extensive remodelling of St. John's Anglican Church in WOLFVILLE, N.S. in 1893. His portrait and biography, in which he was described as 'a successful contractor and architect' appeared in the Halifax Herald, 20 Jan. 1933, 3. Prat died in Wolfville on 4 August 1936 (obit.
