Petyt, William

PETYT, William (fl. 1878-79), listed as 'C.E. & Architect', was active in Peterborough, Ont. and prepared an elaborate Italianate design for a substantial villa commissioned by Adolph Hugel in PORT HOPE, ONT. The drawings for the residence, dated 1878, have survived and can be found in the Horwood Collection (OA, Horwood Coll., Item 627). Hugel was listed as a gentleman owning land on John Street in Port Hope (Directory of the County of Northumberland and the County of Durham, 1880, 76), but it is unclear if the villa was built, and if so, whether it still stands.
