MONTREAL, QUE., Dominion Express Building, 1910. The Toronto firm of Burke & Horwood were one of five architects from Montreal and Toronto who submitted designs for this eleven storey office block (Gazette [Montreal], 26 Feb. 1910, 20). Their elaborate Beaux-Arts proposal was passed over in favour of the winning scheme from E. & W.S. Maxwell of Montreal, but the perspective drawing by Burke & Horwood has survived, and is now held in the Horwood Coll. at the Ontario Archives in Toronto, Acc. HC: C 11 (Carr, 134, illus.).
