BAROTT, Ernest Isbell (1884-1966), an important 20th C. Canadian architect active in Montreal, Que. whose works can be found across Canada from British Columbia to New Brunswick, and in the British West Indies. He worked as the owner and partner of the following offices in Montreal:

COMPETITIONS

MONTREAL, QUE., Church of St. Andrew & St. Paul, Sherbrooke Street West at Redpath Street, 1929. The office of Barott & Blackader was one of twelve Montreal architectural firms invited to submit an entry (R.A.I.C. Journal, vi, Dec. 1929, 442-3, illus.; inf. Scott Edwards). Their proposal was set aside in favour of the modern Gothic design by Harold L. Fetherstonhaugh, who was declared the winner.
NEW YORK CITY, N.Y., The Canadian Pavilion, World's Fair, 1939. Barott was one of several prominent Canadian architects who submitted a design for this exhibition pavilion. He was awarded the Second Prize of $300. for his effort (Ottawa Journal, 30 March 1938, 2; R.A.I.C. Journal, xv, April 1938, 78-80, illus.). The winner was W.F. Williams from British Columbia.
