Jean, Charles A.

JEAN, Charles A. **(1904-1958) was born in Ste. Luce, Que. on 19 June 1904 and attended the School of Architecture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Quebec City. Upon graduation he joined the Royal Architectural Inst. of Canada in 1929 and formed a partnership with **Rene Blanchet in 1932 (see list of works under Blanchet & Jean). In 1934 he opened his own office and parctised under his own name until 1946 when he formed another partnership with Roland Dupere. Their best known work, executed in collaboration with Robert Blatter and Fernand Caron, was the modernist design for the Veteran's Hospital (now the Centre Hospitalier de l'Universite Laval), designed in 1948-49 but not completed until 1954.
