COMPETITIONS

SIMCOE, ONT., Norfolk County Court House, 1863. Mr. Horsey of Ottawa was one of 12 firms that submitted designs for this county Court House (Brant Expositor [Brantford], 5 June 1863, 2, report on the competition). His proposal was passed over in favour of the winning scheme by John Turner of Brantford.
CHICAGO, ILL., USA, The Singer Machine Co., State Street at Washington Street, headquarters and office block, 1872; demol. 1905. The Chicago architectural office of Horsey & Sheard was one of 12 architects who submitted a design in this important competition for a new home of Singer Sewing Machine Co, costing $400,000 (Chicago Tribune, 17 March 1872, 3, list of competitors). The submission by Horsey & Sheard was later passed over by the jury, and E.S. Jennison was awarded First Prize.
HAMILTON, ONT., Wentworth County Provincial Court House, 1876. In October 1876 it was announced that the Ottawa firm of Horsey & Sheard had received First Premium for their architectural drawings for a Court House in Hamilton (Daily News [Kingston], 10 Oct. 1876, 5), but the commission was later given to Charles W. Mulligan of Hamilton.
