JARRETT, George James Goodwin (1865-1951), son of William G. Jarrett, an architect and contractor who was active in Port Perry, Ont. in the late 19th C. His son George was born at Raglan, Ont. on 3 September 1865. He worked for his father from 1892 until 1903, then moved to Weyburn, Saskatchewan to open his own office as an architect. He later joined the Saskatchewan Association of Architects in March 1912. Jarrett designed several commercial, institutional and ecclesiastical works there between 1905 and 1912, but few references to work as an architect have been found after 1917, and he appears to have abandoned the profession, choosing instead to serve on the local Board of Trade, and to become federal Collector of Customs Tariffs in the region. He retired in 1940 and moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., and later to Grimsby, Ontario. He died at Dolgesville, N.Y. on 13 July 1951 while on a family visit, and was later buried at Victoria Lawn Cemetery in St. Catharines, Ont. in 1951 (obituary Grimsby Independent, 2 Aug. 1951, 5; obit. Weyburn Review, 26 July 1951; inf. Robert Hamilton, of Hamilton, Ont.; inf. Frank Korvemaker, Regina).
