COMPETITIONS

VANCOUVER, B.C., University of British Columbia, 1912. Turner received a generous Third Prize of $2,000 for his formal plan inspired by the quadrangles of Oxford and Cambridge (Colonist [Victoria], 11 Dec. 1912, 1; Const., vi, March 1913, 109-11, illus. & descrip.). The winning scheme was submitted by Sharp & Thompson.
WINNIPEG, MAN., City Hall, 1913. Turner was one of 39 architects from across Canada who submitted plans in this national competition, but he was not among the five finalists (City of Winnipeg Archives, Council Communications, 1913, Box A169, Item 9741, list of entrants). The winners were Clemesha & Portnall of Regina, but their scheme was never built.
MOOSE JAW, SASK., City Hall, 1913. Turner was one of several Canadian architects to submit a design in this national competition, but his entry was passed over in favour of the First Prize design by John D. Atchison.
LENNOXVILLE, QUE., Bishop's University Campus, 1926. Turner collaborated with Samuel H. Maw in proposing a quadrangle plan to complement the existing 19th century buildings on the campus, but the scheme was never realized (R.A.I.C.
