Osborne, Edward P.

OSBORNE, Edward P. (fl. 1853-1875) of London, England emigrated to Canada after 1850 and settled at Simcoe, Ont. where he advertised his services as an architect and engineer (Simcoe Standard, 9 Feb. 1853, advert.). He moved to Toronto in 1855 and formed a partnership with James Grand in early September of that year (see list of works under Grand & Osborne). Their partnership was shortlived however, and was dissolved by mutual consent in early 1856. He may be the same 'Mr. Osborne' listed in the Toronto partnership of Osborne & Barsham, Architects & Engineers in 1859 (Caverhill's Directory of Toronto, 1859, 151). No information on his activity has been found until 1874 when he and Hugh Smith opened dual offices in Buffalo, N.Y. and in Simcoe, Ont. (British Canadian (Simcoe), 12 Aug. 1874, 3, article and advert.). Osborne was noted as having '.....studied under one of the finest architects in London, England and for many years has been engaged with some of the eminent architects in New York and Buffalo'. Osborne & Smith advertised their services in Simcoe until October 1875.
