BUFFY, Mark Lightheart (1846-1909), was born in Aylmer, Ont. and practised there in the late 1880's before moving to London, Ont. to open an office (C.A.B., iii, April 1890, 47). During his career he prepared a number of designs for small and relatively undistinguished churches and residences but his most striking proposal was that for the Town Hall at Tillsonburg, Ont.. (1897-98; demol. 1979). He died in London on 13 February 1909 (obituary in the Free Press [London], 13 Feb. 1909, 2; Const., ii, March 1909, 61).
