Bruce, Donald

BRUCE, Donald (fl. 1882-83) was an obscure architect who was listed in the 1882 and 1883 editions of the Winnipeg City Directory. He was briefly in partnership with Robert J. Edwards (Manitoba Free Press [Winnipeg], 1 April 1882, 5, advert.) and together they prepared a design for the Presbyterian Church, Owen Street, BARRIE, ONT. (Enterprise [Collingwood], 25 May 1882, 3, descrip.). An article on his work was published in the Winnipeg Daily Sun, 21 March 1883, 1, where he was said to have been 'making designs' for several new buildings in WINNIPEG, MAN. including a lavish residence for ex-Alderman Monkman, King Street; a brick block of seven stores for Robinson Morris, Princess Street at Market Avenue; a commercial block for Mr. Harvey, King Street at Market Avenue; a terrace of brick houses for Dr. Graham, William Avenue at Dagmar Street; a commercial block for Alexander McDonald, Main Street; and a block of stores for J. Robinson, Notre Dame Avenue East, 1883.
