Bruce, Alex Stuart

BRUCE, Alex Stuart (1840-1902), a native of Scotland, was an architect in St. John's, Newfoundland who practised in that city from 1894 until his death there on 2 February 1902 (obituary in the Evening Telegram [St. John's], 3 Feb. 1902, 4). His best known work which still stands today is the Law Chambers, Duckworth Street, ST. JOHN'S, NFLD., 1899. Constructed in native bluestone and was said to be '...one of the prettiest structures in the city'.
