Brindle, Carter Hawkins

BRINDLE, Carter Hawkins (1867-1957), a native of Blackburn, Lancashire, was born on 23 November 1867 and brought to Canada in 1884 by his family. They moved to Souris, Manitoba in 1887 and by 1900 Brindle had become a successful architect and builder there. Many of the brick commercial blocks which line Crescent Avenue, the main street in Souris, were designed by him. His best known work there was the Town Hall (1904). In September 1910 he joined the Manitoba Association of Architects and continued to practise until the late 1930's. Brindle died in Souris on 23 July 1957 (obituary, Souris Plaindealer, 31 July 1957, 1; inf. Mr. H. Brindle, Souris, Man.).
