Oliver, Frederick George

OLIVER, Frederick George (1882-c. 1932) was active in Lethbridge, Alta. from 1911 to 1914. Born in Berwick-on-Tweed, England on 29 July 1882 he served an apprenticeship with James Stevenson & Son, Berwick, 1898-1902, with H.T. Graydon, Durham, 1903-04, and with Boyd & Gray, Berwick, 1904-07. He came to Alberta in 1908 and worked with W.M. Dodd in Calgary, then moved to Lethbridge where he was employed as a draftsman for Ernest E. Carver, with whom he formed a partnership in 1913 (see list of works under Carver & Oliver). He left for England in 1914 to serve with British forces in WWI and then returned to Canada in 1920 to work as draftsman for A.M. Jeffers, Edmonton, 1920, for the City Architect's Dept. in Toronto, 1921-27, and for Chapman & Oxley, Toronto from November 1927 to 1931 (inf. Ontario Assoc. of Architects).
