BLANCHET, Rene (1908-1991) was born in Levis, Que. on 25 February 1908 and graduated from the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Quebec City in 1931. He studied under Lorenzo Auger and Raoul Chenevert in Quebec City, and with Louis N. Audet in Sherbrooke before commencing practice in 1932. Much of his professional career was devoted to commissions for several Roman Catholic dioceses; many of these were carried out under his own name, while others were completed in association with other Quebec City architects. He died in Quebec City on 21 December 1991. The Archives Nationales du Quebec in Quebec City holds a major collection of 6,000 drawings by Blanchet prepared between 1931 and 1980 (biog. L. Noppen et al, Quebec Monumental 1890-1990, 178).
