Black, Henry Kenneth

BLACK, Henry Kenneth (1912-1993) was born in Regina, Sask. on 19 May 1912 and graduated from the Dept. of Architecture at the University of Toronto in 1935. He trained with Storey & Van Egmond in 1935, with John B. Parkin in Toronto in 1939, and with Chapman & Oxley in 1940. His poor health limited his participation during the war effort, and he joined the Naval Service in Ottawa, working under Cecil Burgess and A.J. Hazelgrove. He returned to Regina in January 1946 and opened his own office, specializing in the design of schools and hospitals. Black later formed a partnership with Ken McMillan and Harry Larson in 1957 and retired in 1972. He died in Regina on 4 July 1993 (obit. Globe & Mail [Toronto], 7 July 1993, C5; biog. and port.
