Ogilvie, Andrew Linton

OGILVIE, Andrew Linton (1868-1929) of Toronto was first listed as a draughtsman, then as partner with Robert Ogilvie, to whom he may have been related (see list works under R. & A.L. Ogilvie). Born in Richmond, Ontario on 23 May 1868, he may have trained in the Toronto office of Robert Ogilvie after 1885. From 1895 until 1900 he maintained his own office on King Street East and later on Toronto Street. It is likely that he was the designer of the Brantford Expositor Building, Queen Street at Dalhousie Street, BRANTFORD, ONT., 1895, a work executed in collaboration with the local supervising architect A.H. Mellish (Brantford Weekly Expositor, 5 July 1895, 12, illus.). The facade of the Expositor Building is still standing in 2022, and has been incorporated into The Expositor Place complex.

In 1898 Ogilvie designed a private residence for an unnamed client situated at 56 Madison Avenue, corner Lowther Avenue, TORONTO, ONT. (C.R., ix, 12 Oct. 1898, 3). Ogilvie left Canada after 1905 and moved to California where he was living in 1923. He died in Inglewood, Calif. on 1 May 1929 (death notice Los Angeles Times, 2 May 1929, 22)
