BETTS, Randolph Cotgrave (1902-1989), a native of Philadelphia, Penn., was born on 20 December 1902 and attended private schools in New York State. He moved to Montreal in 1921 and first studied commerce before enrolling in the Dept. of Architecture at McGill University where he graduated in 1928. He spent his summers working for Lawson & Little and Nobbs & Hyde and after graduation he spent four years in the office of John S. Archibald. He continued to practice alone until 1949 when he joined in partnership with Harold Lawson (see list of works under Lawson & Betts). Donald H. Cash joined the firm after 1950 as a third partner. Betts was elected President of the Prov. of Quebec Association of Architects in 1959 and retired after 1970. He died in Montreal on 28 November 1989 (death notice Gazette [Montreal], 29 Nov. 1989, F5; inf. Province of Quebec Assoc. of Architects)
