Beaule, Oscar

BEAULE, Oscar (1889-1960) was born in Quebec City but did not receive a formal education in architecture. Instead, much of his knowledge of the profession came from his training under David Ouellet, in whose office he articled from 1908 to 1912. He then continued his training in the office of Rene P. Lemay in 1913-15. Beaule joined the Province of Quebec Assoc. of Architects in 1913 and operated his practice in Quebec City under his own name from late 1915 onward. In 1923 he invited J. Albert Morissette to form a partnership, and they continued to work together until after 1950 specializing in the design of institutional and ecclesiastical work for several Roman Catholic dioceses. Beaule was a respected member of the profession and elected by his colleagues in 1946 as President of the Prov. of Quebec Assoc. of Architects. He died in Quebec City on 27 December 1960 (obit. l'Action Catholique [Quebec City], 28 Dec. 1960, 17; obit. and port. Le Soleil [Quebec City], 28 Dec. 1960, 26; biography and port.
