Bauer, Frederick J.

BAUER, Frederick J. (1857- ), was active in New Westminster, B.C. from 1899 to 1904. Born in the United States on 11 June 1857, he arrived in Canada from the State of Minnesota in 1888 and may have been related to W.A. Bauer, an architect who was recorded in Vancouver in 1893 (Williams British Columbia Directory, 1893, 917). He first appeared in New Westminster in 1900 (British Columbia Directory, 1900-01, 1178), but no information has been found on his work there after 1904 (biog. Vancouver Daily World, 10 April 1900, 5; J.D. Scott, Once in the Royal City: The Heritage of New Westminster, 1985, 138; D. Luxton, Building the West: The Early Architects of British Columbia, 2003, 453, 491).
