Barnes, William C.

BARNES, William C. (1858-1931), a native of Sackville, N.S., began his career as an employee of the Intercolonial Railroad and the Canadian Express Co. in Halifax. He moved to Moncton shortly after 1900 and practiced architecture in that city there from 1905 onward. Drawings for some of his commissions that survive reveal his designs to be undistinguished and imitative. He died in Shelburne, N.S. on 31 July 1931 as the result of an automobile accident (obituary in the Daily Times [Moncton], 1 Aug. 1931, 8; Moncton Transcript, 31 July 1931, 1).
