Innes, Robert L.

INNES, Robert L. (1824- ) practised as a civil engineer and architect in Belleville, Ont. from 1859 until 1869. He advertised in the Toronto Daily Leader, 9 April 1859, 3, as having 'devoted his whole attention for upwards of 20 years to the practice of Civil Engineering and having had much experience both in Great Britain and in this, his native country'. In late 1860 he formed a partnership with Henry Augustus F. MacLeod of Belleville, and together they offered their services as 'Civil Engineers, Provincial Land Surveyors, Architects and Land Agents (Directory of the County of Hastings, 1860-61, 65, advert.). In 1865 they prepared plans for St John's Anglican Church, MADOC, ONT. (inf. Alan Danford), and in 1868 Innes designed a commercial block on Front Street, BELLEVILLE, ONT. which was located 'adjacent to the premises of Philip Hambly' (Weekly Intelligencer [Belleville], 8 May 1868, 3, t.c.). That same year he completed a plan for an addition to School House No. 2, Coleman Ward, BELLEVILLE, ONT. (Weekly Intelligencer [Belleville], 24 July 1868, 3, t.c.). No information on his later work has been found.
