Ballard, Charles Tuffield

BALLARD, Charles Tuffield (1841-1910), born in Toronto, Ont. on 25 October 1841, was active in Montreal, Que. where he was in partnership with James Nelson in 1868-69 and from 1881 until 1883 (see list of works under Nelson & Ballard). The Members' Register for the Prov. of Quebec Association of Architects records him as being "...in practice since November 1880" and he paid his dues to the organization until 1894. In 1888 he was one of five competitors to submit an entry for the Temple Block, a commercial building on St. James Street, on the site of the old St. James Methodist Church (Gazette [Montreal], 11 May 1888, 3). His entry was set aside in favour of the winning scheme by A.F. Dunlop. Ballard died in Montreal on 19 May 1910 (death notice Montreal Daily Star, 20 May 1910, 19).
