Inman, William Southcote

INMAN, William Southcote (1798-1879), was active in London, England and in 1838 exhibited his competition drawing at the Royal Academy in London for a Public Building at ST. JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND, for which he received First Premium of £50 (Civil Engineer and Architect's Journal [London], i, April 1838, 174). It is uncertain if his proposal was built, but it is known that he was an ambitious designer of considerable ability, for early in his career he had received the Second Premium for his design of new buildings for King's College, Cambridge, and in 1835 submitted a design in the competition for the Houses of Parliament, London (H. Colvin, Biographical Dictionary of British Architects 1600-1840, 1978, 444; Directory of British Architects 1834-1900, 1993, 486).
