Bachmann, George Albert

BACHMANN, George Albert (1881-c. 1935) was born in Grimsby, England on 14 April 1881 and trained there with J.J. Creswell from 1896 to 1900. He spent ten years as assistant to Samuel Keighley at Burnley, Engl. (in 1902-12) before emigrating to Canada in 1913. Bachmann settled in Toronto where he assisted W.A. Langton (1913-14), then worked as draftsman with the Board of Education (1915-20), with Sproatt & Rolph (1921), with Toronto Hydro (1921-22), and with Chapman & Oxley (1923-31). In 1932 he collaborated with Abe Wilson on the design of the Forest Hill Fire Hall & Police Station, Eglinton Avenue West at Russell Hill Road, TORONTO, ONT., 1932-33. Bachmann remained active in Toronto until 1935 (inf. Ontario Assoc. of Architects; Toronto Historical Board).
