Cross, Frederick William Franklin

CROSS, Frederick William Franklin (1856-1936) was born in Birmingham, Engl. on 14 November 1856. He was educated at Queen's College and articled with Thomas Naden, one of Birmingham's leading architects. He commenced his own career in 1883 and practised for nearly thirty years in England before emigrating to Canada in 1911 at the age of 55 years. In 1912 he was recorded as an architect with the firm of Parr, Mackenzie & Day (Vancouver City Directory, 1912, 687). Cross practised under his own name in Vancouver from 1913 until c. 1930, but no information has been found on his activity after this time. The Vancouver City Archives holds drawings for several projects designed by Cross during the period from 1923 to 1926 (D. Luxton, Building The West: The Early Architects of British Columbia, 2003, 459, 496).
