CRAYSTON, Edmund Walter (1871-1940) was born at Helen Mills, Pennsylvania on 6 February 1871 and educated at Ridgeway, Penn. He worked as a carpenter's apprentice and moved to Manitoba in 1888 where he settled at Glenora and farmed there for four years. In 1892 he moved to Winnipeg and was employed by several construction companies as foreman until 1901 when he joined J.H. Cadham as chief draftsman. In 1908 he opened an office under his own name and completed several designs for prototypical walk-up apartment blocks in the Winnipeg area before WWI.
