Cousin, Paul

COUSIN, Paul (1841-1895), a native of Bordeaux, France, studied in that country and arrived in Quebec City before 1865 where he worked under J.F. Peachy and a 'Mr. Perreault' [perhaps H.M. Perrault] (Journal de Quebec [Quebec City], 27 Feb. 1875, 2, advert, 3). He was a talented draughtsman and illuminator of books and addresses and his drawings caught the attention of local editors (Journal de Quebec [Quebec City], 15 Jan. 1870, 2). He opened his own office in Quebec City in 1875 and had charge of the street decorations for the visit of Lord Dufferin in 1876 (Journal de Quebec [Quebec City], 18 Jan. 1876, 2). He served as Chief Architect for the Province of Quebec from 1887 until 1891 when he was succeeded by Elzear Charest.
