Nelson, Hercules Charles

NELSON, Hercules Charles (1866-1934), was the son of James Nelson of Montreal, a leading architect there for nearly 50 years. His son H. Charles Nelson was born in Montreal on 4 April 1866 and was likely encouraged by his father to pursue a career in the architectural profession. He was recorded as a draftsman in the office of Nelson & Clift, Architects in 1886-87, and by 1894 he became a full partner with his father in the new Montreal firm of James & H.C. Nelson. They remained active until early 1898, but no information has been found on the activity of H. Charles after this period. He later moved to the Maritimes, and died at Woodstock, New Brunswick on 21 June 1934, and was buried at Northampton Kirk Cemetery in that town.
