Hennigar, Donald McCallum

HENNIGAR, Donald McCallum (1887-1951) of London, Ontario was active there from 1912 and he worked as chief assistant to John M. Moore, an important regional architect in Western Ontario. Born in Chicago, Ill. on 8 February 1887, he was brought to Canada in 1890 by his family, and served an apprenticeship with Ralph K. Sheppard in Toronto in 1910-12 before moving to London, Ont. to join the office of J.M. Moore. He became a member of the Ontario Association of Architects in September 1912, but his 1931 Membership Form states that he had “...practised in Montreal from time to time”, and that he has also practised in Burlington, Vermont “,,.for three or four years”. After leaving the office of J.M. Moore in 1932, he established his own office in London, and later became the staff architect for the London Life Insurance Co., one of the largest private insurance companies in Canada. He died in London, Ont. in 1951 (inf. Ontario Association of Architects; inf. Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, membership records).
