KING, Edmund Dewitt (1885-1969) practised in Vancouver from 1938 until after 1950. Born at Cambridge Narrows, New Brunswick in 1885 he graduated from the School of Architecture at McGill University in 1912 and worked in the Montreal office of MacVicar & Heriot from 1912 to 1914. He served with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Halifax during World War I and came to Toronto in 1919 where he assisted in the office of Thomas W. Lamb. In 1922 he moved to Vancouver and for the next sixteen years he was the chief draftsman for Townley & Matheson. King left that firm in 1938 to establish his own office and formed a partnership with John H. Wade in 1940. In 1946 King accepted the appointment of staff architect for the Vancouver School Board, a post which required that he supervise and oversee the extensive post-war building plans of the School Board. He held this post until his retirement in 1956 and died in Vancouver on 22 July 1969 (death notice in The Sun [Vancouver], 26 July 1969, 34).
