WHATMOUGH, Arthur Edwin (1884-1971) was active in Toronto, Ont. as an architect and builder, and was noted as the contractor who built several private houses in the Wychwood Park neighbourhood in 1919-25 (inf. Dr. Hal Kalman, Vancouver). In 1917 he designed his own house near High Park, on Mountview Avenue near Glenlake Avenue., TORONTO, ONT., 1917 ( Const., x, May 1917, 185). In 1922 he prepared plans for a substantial residence in Moore Park for Howard C. Blachford, Glenrose Avenue at Clifton Road, TORONTO, ONT. (Toronto b.p. 47834, 29 March 1922). No information can be found on his activity after 1925. His son was Grant Whatmough (1921-1999), an architect, artist and writer who was a devotee and follower of Frank Lloyd Wright. He designed several modernist houses in the Oakville area after 1950, as well as the residence for Anthony Phillips, Alps Road, GALT, ONT. in 1964 (Globe & Mail [Toronto], 19 March 2021, p.
