BROWN, John Francis (1866-1942), a leading and remarkably prolific architect active in Toronto, Ont. and patriarch of three generations of the Brown Family of architects who began work in the late 19th C. He was active in the following offices:

ONTARIO, protoypes for public school buildings in the province, 1900. J.F. Brown was one of 111 architects and draftsmen who submitted designs for a variety of school buildings in a competition sponsored by the Ontario government (Daily British Whig [Kingston], 20 April 1900, 5). Brown won First Prize of $100 for his design of a Two Room School, and First Prize of $150 for his design of a Four Room School. .
