COMPETITIONS

TORONTO, ONT., Central Technical School, Bathurst Street at Harbord Street, 1912. Cobb was one of seventeen architects to submit designs for this major insititutional building. He received the Third Prize of $500 for his effort (Ottawa Journal, 20 June 1912, 14). The winners were Ross & MacFarlane of Montreal.
MOOSE JAW, SASK., City Hall, 1912. This national competition produced 30 entries by architects from Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto and elsewhere. Charles Cobb received the 4th Prize for his effort (Edmonton Journal, 24 Dec. 1912, 18; Const. vi, Jan. 1913, 18, illus.). The First Prize was awarded to John D. Atchison of Winnipeg, but his winning design was never built.
FRANCE & BELGIUM, Canadian Battlefields Memorial, 1921. Cobb was among more than 100 Canadian architects and artists who submitted plans in this national competition. He was one of 17 finalists who were selected for the second stage of the competition (Winnipeg Daily Tribune, 25 April 1921, 3, list of finalists). The First Premium was eventually awarded to F.C. Clemesha of Regina, and to the sculptor Walter Allward of Toronto.
