COMPETITIONS
HELENA, MONTANA, USA., The State Capitol Building, 1896. A total of 59 architects from the United States and Canada sent in drawings for this important competition. The design by Grant was listed as " No. 38 - G.W. Grant, Vancouver", but it was not among the four finalists (Helena Weekly Independent, 13 Aug. 1896, 8, full list of competitors). The winner was George R. Mann of St. Louis.
VANCOUVER, B.C., the East End School, and the West End School, 1900. Ten local architectural firms submitted designs for two new public schools in Vancouver (Province [Vancouver], 21 July 1900, 6). The plans by Grant were passed over and E.A. Whitehead and Parr & Fee were awarded the commissions.
VANCOUVER HIGH SCHOOL, 1903. The office of Grant & Henderson was one of seven firms invited to submit plans for the new High School in Fairview (Vancouver Daily World, 9 Sept. 1903, 2). He was awarded Third Prize for his effort, and E.E. Blackmore was declared as the winner (The Province [Vancouver], 14 Nov. 1903, 13). The School Board later named W.T. Whiteway as the architect.
