Allaster, A. Stuart

ALLASTER, A. Stuart (1884-1938) was born in London, Ont. and received his architectural education in New York City and Chicago. After serving an apprenticeship with the Detroit firm of Spier & Rohns he engaged in work in Winnipeg, Montreal and Buffalo before opening an office in Brockville, Ont. in 1909. He remained active there until 1924 and returned to Detroit, Michigan later that year. Both he and Gilbert Jacques formed a partnership in Windsor, Ont. in 1926 (see list of works under Jacques & Allaster), but by 1931 he had again taken up residency in Detroit and died there in late May 1938 (biography and portrait in Canadian Engineer, l, 22 June 1926, 692; obituary , lxxxix, 14 June 1938, 16).
