Piper, Arthur M.

PIPER, Arthur M. (1875-1943) was active as an architect in Chatham, Ont. from 1903 until after 1910 (Chatham City Directory, 1906-07, 149). He moved to London, Ont. in 1912 and the following year was appointed City Architect and Building Inspector there, a position he held for next two decades. He also may have been employed as the Staff Architect for the Canadian Oil Co. His signature appears on plans for an eclectic design for a prototypical gas station to built in locations across Canada for the Standard Oil Co. (dwgs. at PANS, Halifax, N.S.). After mandatory registration for all architects in Ontario occurred in 1931, he is listed variously as a draftsman and building superintendent in London. Piper died there on 2 May 1943 (death notice Free Press [London], 3 May 1943, 22)
