Borter, Charles Martin

BORTER, Charles Martin (1872-1925), born in Watervliet, N.Y. on 29 June 1872, moved to Niagara Falls, Ont. in 1905. He opened an office there in 1908 and specialized in designing school buildings, many of which still stand throughout the Niagara Peninsula. In 1913 he was one of sixteen architects who submitted plans in the competition for the new Public School at Welland (Welland Tribune, 11 Dec. 1913, Second Section, 1). His entry was passed over in favour of the winning design by A.E. Nicholson. Borter died in Niagara Falls on 14 April 1925 (obit. Niagara Falls Review, 15 April 1925, 4).
